Night of Al-Qadr

The Night of Al-Qadr (Laylat al-Qadr) is nearly upon us. Subhan-Allah.

A quick reminder there is a Supplication Sheet available here. This supplication is taken from the following Hadith:

Introducing Quran Pages

I am so very excited today to introduce ‘Quran Pages

Just like Supplication Sheets, I have been wanting to publish clear, simple and extremely high quality extracts of the Quran for a while now. Just recently though (By the Grace of Allah Almighty), have found a way to create high quality reproductions of the Quran in both popular scripts – Uthmani and Indo/Pak (which is my personal favorite), which has enabled this project to progress, Alhamdulillah.

Each Quran Page document will be on one Surah (Chapter). My initial plan is to only work on Surah 1 (Al-Fatiha) and the Surah’s of Juz 30 (Amma), which will inshAllah be released incrementally.

As you may have noticed, a Quran Index page has also been created (which can be found in the top menu bar and right side column), where you can keep track of all the Quran Page documents.

TheWahyProject-IQP-Image3

But you may be asking yourself, how is Quran Pages different to other projects? Well, a number of features:

1. Script

Quran Page documents will be released in two scripts:

  • Indo/Pak script: Also referred to as Persian script

TheWahyProject-IQP-Image1

TheWahyProject-IQP-Image2

Note: Though only the Indo/Pak script image will be shown on the actual online Page, pdf’s of both the scripts will be available for download, so please do check these out.

2. Accuracy

Accuracy of the Quran text is of the utmost importance and the number 1 priority. Quran Pages uses the following to ensure accuracy:

  • Indo/Pak script: Created using the “Quran Publishing System” (QPS), which provides 100% ligature based error free text. This is the very same software that has been used to typeset a number of Quran books.
  • Uthmani script: Taken straight from the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex. Even the font is exactly the same.

3. Design

Each Quran Page document is on one Surah. One page will be the Arabic text, while the next page will be an English translation.

Quran Pages documents are designed to be,

  • Simple: Minimalist & clean formatting to prevent distractions
  • Clear
  • Scalable: As scanned images are not used to create documents, there is no fuzziness when you zoom in. Enjoy large crisp text
  • High quality
  • Portable: Perfect for viewing on your computer or on mobile devices like iPads/Tablets

4. Translation

The translation used (unless other specified) is:

  • “The Holy Qur’an Part 30: ‘Amma with Modern English Translations (Fourth Edition)”.By Muhammad Shamsul Haque, Ph.D. Namuk International. 1993.

5. Audio

Though audio has not been embedded into the pdf files, it is provided on the corresponding online Page (where the Quran Pages document is published). A couple of points to note:

  • Audio of the entire Surah is available to play directly from the online Page (but please note, this is created by joining the individual verse audio without any intermediary gaps)
  • Audio of the entire Surah and individual verses is available to download from the online Page. (Metdata in the audio files have been correctly setup to allow smooth import into any audio player, eg iTunes)

Reference for the Audio is as follows:

6. Portable

The real advantage of Quran Pages is that you don’t need to be connected to the internet to view them. You can download all the documents and view them offline.

So I hope you enjoy. Stay tuned … the first Quran Page document is just around the corner.

Cover + Art

As-Salaam-Alaikum All,

Sorry have been offline for a while – the past months has been so very busy. But I have been working hard on new material, which I hope (inshAllah) to release real soon 🙂 But in the mean time, let me share one of the projects I have been working on – as you may know I create my own Cover Art, which is embedded into each audio (mp3) file released by this site. Here is a sample of the latest cover … Alhamdulillah!

TheWahyProject_CoverArt_3

I love Islamic Patterns and their geometrical intricacies – the new series of Cover Art that I am working on, is inspired by this beautiful art form.

So stay tuned and you should start seeing this (& more) in some of the mp3 files soon.

Some of my other Cover Art images can be found in one of my earlier posts here

What to say upon completing Ablution (Wudu)
Though the wording of the Declaration (in grey below), exists in Sahih Muslim (as per the last post), Tirmidhi [1] reported the following addition (in white below),

Note:

This hadith is graded as Daif (weak) in [1]. But the following comment is presented in [1] , “This narration, just with the wording of the Declaration, exists in Sahih Muslim; and the addition of “Allahum-maj’al-nee minat-tawwabeena waj’alnee minal mutatahhireen” [O Allah! Make me one of those who repent in abundance and make me of those who are clean and pure] this addition is proven authentic see Irwa’ul-Ghalil 1/135, and Al-Jami’As-Saghir 1/1112″.

The Arabic Alphabet – Names of the Letters (Video)

Alhamdulillah I have finally finished my very first video 🙂 – am very excited! I was actually hoping to have this out last year (as can be seen by my earlier post), but time just slipped away from me *embarrassed*… but today am redeeming myself 🙂

As you have probably noticed, the majority of my posts have some form of Arabic in them. Arabic forms the foundation of Islamic teaching & learning – the Quran was revealed in Arabic, Hadith are recorded in Arabic. The importance of this wonderful & rich language can not be overstated.

Unfortunately Arabic is not my first language, so I have always wanted to have a reference or a quick guide on the Arabic Alphabet (especially on how to pronounce the letters correctly). So a little while back I got together with my friend(s) at Roots & Sprouts and we have filmed a set of quick videos that cover the basics of the Arabic Alphabet. The first in this series is the (1) Names of the Letters,

You can also view the video on YouTube or Vimeo

I hope everyone finds this helpful – it is not just intended for children, but all Non (native) Arabic speakers – young and old.

I love to get your feedback so please do let me know what you think.

[1] A special thanks to Sheik Mamdouh Moustafa Mahmoud (Roots & Sprouts), for being the face of the video & the wonderful explanation.
